How to Rank #1 on Google Maps as a Doctor in India

When a patient in your city types "cardiologist near me" or "best skin doctor in [your area]" into Google, they see three things before any website link: a map and three clinic listings. Step 1: Claim and Verify Your Profile

This sounds obvious but you'd be surprised — a significant percentage of Indian clinic GBP listings are either unclaimed, claimed by a former employee, or duplicated. Go to business.google.com, search for your clinic, and claim ownership. Google will verify via postcard, phone call, or video verification.

⚠️ Watch out for duplicates. If someone has already created a listing for your clinic, you'll need to request ownership. Google allows this through a standard request form. Duplicate listings split your reviews and hurt ranking — always merge or remove them.

Step 2: Complete Every Single Field

  • Phone number — use a local landline or mobile, not a toll-free number
  • Website URL — your own clinic website, not just Practo
  • Opening hours including Saturday/Sunday and holiday hours
  • Appointment booking link
  • Attributes (e.g. "Accepts new patients", "Online care", "Wheelchair accessible")
  • Business description (750 characters — use your specialty, location, and patient promise)

Step 3: Upload Real, High-Quality Photos

Clinics with 10+ photos receive significantly more clicks and direction requests than those with none. Upload photos of the following, all taken in good natural or studio lighting:

  • Clinic exterior (so patients can identify it on arrival)
  • Reception and waiting area
  • Consultation room
  • Doctor in professional setting (not a stock photo)
  • Any specialist equipment or facilities

Name your photo files descriptively before uploading — e.g. dr-sharma-cardiology-clinic-delhi.jpg rather than IMG_4521.jpg. This adds minor but real SEO value.

Respond to every review
